Kiel Moe's work focuses on both the appearance and performance of buildings. This inevitably involves the research and deployment of prudent material and energy systems for each project. Kiel's design research oscillates between the production of buildings and books. The research behind his books directly informs the design and construction of his buildings.

 

Kiel Moe is an architectural designer, professor, and author. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, his Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia, and his Master in Design Studies from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He has taught at Syracuse University and University of Illinois, Chicago. At Northeastern, Moe teaches design studios and lectures on the topic of integrated design. He has a design-build practice for small, research-driven projects.

 

Recognition

Kiel Moe's first book, Integrated Design in Contemporary Architecture, was published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2008. Thermally Active Surfaces in Architecture, will be published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2010.

 

Moe’s work has been recognized with awards and exhibitions from the Boston Society of Architects, The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Colorado, The AIA Western Mountain Region, The AIA Committee on the Environment, The North American Wood Council, The Chicago Architecture Foundation, The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, and GreenBuild. In addition to his own publications, Kiel's work has been published in Modern Cabin, Architecture Boston, Metropolitan Home, Dwell, Wood Design and Building magazine.
