HouMinn Practice

HouMinn (pronounced "human") believes in a slow, evolutionary approach to design; the involvement of interdisciplinary collaborators; and an investment in the act of making, to produce work that resonates with a wider group of people.

Team

HouMinn was founded (as slvDESIGN) in 1998 by principals Blair Satterfield and Marc Swackhamer. Blair is a Visiting Critic at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Marc is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of Minnesota.

 

Recognition

HouMinn’s projects have been shown at the Contemporary Arts Center Cincinnati, the Weisman Gallery in Minneapolis, the Urban Center in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, to name a few. Their work has been published in I.D. Magazine, Architect, Design Community (China), and others. In 2007 their project won top prize in I.D. Magazine’s Annual Design Review. In 2008 HouMinn was nominated for the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Award, won Architect magazine's annual R&D Award, and, in 2009, Blair and Marc were named the Michael Owens Jones Lecturers at the University of Virginia School of Architecture.
